Bf Top 25 Awards Frequently Asked Questions

What is the BlackFrederick.com Top 25 Awards?

The BF Top 25 was created due to the lack of recognition of African-Americans in the Frederick Community.  While we offer a place in our community directory for any business, our focus is on African-American business and organizations in order to celebrate our contributions to Frederick as a whole.  In doing so, we have found a great need and acceptance for having the opportunity to be recognized and celebrated by friends, family and peers.

Why were the awards created?

As stated in the previous question, we felt the need to create a platform for African-Americans being recognized in the African-American community.

Who can be nominated?

Anyone can be nominated for any category, just as long as they meet the criteria of the category itself...and live in Frederick County.  We love diversity!

Who can vote?

Like the nominations, anyone can vote!  You have one vote, per day, per email address, so visit everyday until the contest ends.

Who determines the winners?

The winners are determined by YOU!  We keep a close hold on numbers, and will not announce the winners until the show in February!  Special Award recipients are determined by BlackFrederick.com staff and BF Top 25 Advisory Board.

How is the show structured?

You're going to be wowed!  This years show will be structured much like the regular awards shows you see on television.  Awards, award presenters and the entertainment of the Best Talent nominees throughout the night.  Red Carpet, paparazzi, the works...

Is this a celebrity event?

Mostly local celebrities, but you never know.

Where's the show being held?

This years show will be held at the Jack B. Kussmaul Theater on the lovely campus of Frederick Community College.  The theater seating perfectly matched our show production changes and will serve as our home until we burst out of the seams.

Why the change in venue?

As we grow, we expect to make a few more changes.  But for now, we think we've found a home at the Jack B. Kussmaul Theater.  The Lynnfield Complex had changed their direction, so we thought to find a better facility, keeping your enjoyment of the show our number one priority.  We strive to celebrate our community in a manner that serves you best.  If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to This email address is being protected from spambots. How can I support the show?

You can support the show by doing the following:

  • Nominating your favorite community members in the different categories in November
  • Vote for your favorites in December.
  • Tell all your friends about the awards and the show.
  • Buy ticket(s) to the show.
  • Sponsor the event, send a well wish to a nominee or add a loved one to our new Memorial Tribute.

Where do the show profits go?

HAHA, we just thought we'd throw that in.

Why did the show skip a year?

As we have functioned successfully, we thought to take a break to make sure we were on the right road.  What we found was that the community truly appreciated the opportunity to celebrate one another, so it was time to kick the dust off and get back to work!

Why no dinner with the show?

In this economy, we wanted to keep the price of the show as low as we could.  With the canceling of the dinner, we can now focus on what's important, which are the nominees!

How do I enter the Best Talent Award?

Visit the Best Talent page for rules and regulations.  You'll be happy to know that the winner of the Best Talent will win $1000.00!
